Winter 2018 Newsletter

Winter 2018 Newsletter:
by Kim Cook, LCSW-C

A friend of CentrePointe recently shared the following articles and sermon link with me.  I’m sure most of you have heard of the #metoo movement.  There is another movement reaching into our culture which uses the hashtag #silenceisnotspiritual.  The call is for faith groups to help break the cycle of abuse and assault so prevalent in our culture.  We at CentrePointe are hearing stories of abuse and assault and the after effects in the counseling room daily.  We look forward to a day when there is more support for victims and less barriers to getting help.  If you or your church needs assistance responding to victims and being a part of changing the culture around abuse and assault, we are willing to partner with you.  Please contact one of our clinicians for further conversation. Thank you to the many who are already advocating and engaging in conversation on this topic.  Your courage and vulnerability are inspiring.

For more information about #silenceisnotspiritual please click here. This is an opinion piece by Beth Moore which I think it is very important to read and understand.

The above article leads to another important piece to read and understand from Christianity Today about one of the USA gymnasts and her experience as an abuse survivor seeking help in a local church.

All of the above are referenced in a recent sermon by Rick Warren that is available for listening here.
