A note on cost & credentialing. If your counselor is still completing credentialing with your insurance, you can begin at our self-pay rate in the meantime, then move to your insurance once it is approved. Our front desk is glad to walk you through what applies to you. No one is turned away for an inability to pay — our Samaritan Fund helps clients with high co-pays or without insurance. Just ask.

What kind of counseling do you offer?▾
CentrePointe counselors are trained in the same theories and techniques as other mental-health professionals, and can also integrate spiritual issues with treatment when that is helpful to you. We serve individuals, couples, and families across a wide range of concerns.
Will my counseling be confidential?▾
Yes. All client information and records are confidential within the boundaries and standards of professional and legal requirements. Please see our Client Information Packet for HIPAA privacy notices.
How much does it cost?▾
Fees are based on reasonable and customary costs, and health insurance may cover them. When insurance does not, grants through our Samaritan Fund may be available to make counseling affordable.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?▾
Sessions are 50 minutes in length and usually occur weekly, though your counselor will tailor the schedule to your needs.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?▾
Yes. Many of our counselors offer evening and weekend appointments. Because these hours are in demand, you will discuss availability with your counselor during your initial call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer online counseling?

Yes. We offer counseling both in person and through secure online telehealth. Online counseling is available to anyone located in Maryland or Washington, D.C., so you can meet with your counselor from the comfort of home.

What will counseling cost me out of pocket?

It depends on your coverage. We accept most major insurance plans, so for many clients counseling is covered with just a copay. If you're paying out of pocket, our front desk will walk you through your options before your first session — just call (800) 491-5369. We never want cost to be the reason someone can't get help: our Samaritan Fund assists clients with high copays or no insurance, and we do not turn anyone away based on an inability to pay alone.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept most major health plans, including Kaiser Permanente, CareFirst/BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Optum/UnitedHealthcare, Johns Hopkins Health Plans, Medicaid, Medicare, and TriCare. (We do not accept EAP plans.) Not sure about yours? Call (800) 491-5369 and we'll verify your benefits.

What areas do you serve?

We have offices across Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia — including Ellicott City, Fulton, Ashton, Clarksburg, Derwood, Olney, Bowie, Dunkirk, Severn, Parkville, and Knoxville. Prefer to meet online? Secure telehealth is available throughout Maryland and D.C. See all of our locations.

Do you partner with churches?

Yes. Through our Church Partnership Program we provide Christ-centered counseling, consultation, lectures and seminars, and priority scheduling for partner congregations. Partner churches enter a covenant relationship with us so we can extend hope and care to their members and wider community. Learn more on our Churches page.

Are you a nonprofit? Can I donate?

Yes — CentrePointe is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry with Platinum Transparency through Candid/GuideStar. Donations are what make affordable, faith-integrated counseling possible, and every gift goes directly toward our mission. You can give on our Giving page.

How are donations used?

Your gifts directly fund counseling for people who couldn't otherwise afford it. The Samaritan Fund subsidizes care for uninsured and underinsured clients, Women Helping Women provides financial aid for women and children in need, and our General Fund helps us expand capacity to serve more churches and families. For example, $50 helps make counseling affordable for an individual client.

What kind of counseling do you offer?

Professional, faith-integrated counseling for individuals, couples, families, children, and teens — for anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, marriage and communication, parenting, and spiritual growth. Our licensed counselors combine clinical excellence with genuine Christian faith.

How do I get started?

It takes just a few minutes. Apply online or call (800) 491-5369 with a little basic information about what you're looking for. We'll match you with a counselor based on your needs, availability, and preferences — no waitlist — and confirm your rate. Then you meet your counselor in person or by secure telehealth, often within the same week.

Is counseling confidential?

Yes. Your privacy matters to us, and conversations with your counselor are kept confidential in keeping with professional and legal standards.
